Since 1942 the Board (Sortenorganisation) has been involved in maintaining and promoting Appenzeller cheese as a typical cheese speciality from eastern Switzerland. The core tasks include protecting the brand and origin, promoting quality and sales, planning and regulating production, setting prices in line with the market and representing the Appenzeller cheese industry to the authorities and general public.
The highest body of the Board (Sortenorganisation) is the shareholders’ meeting with a total of 147 members. It elects the eight members of the management. Decisions are made with a qualified majority. The Board is not seeking to make a profit and will also not distribute profits. It has the legal form of a GmbH (limited liability company) in accordance with the Swiss Code of Obligations.
